Description: This event marks the beginning of a journey for thousands of central Texas Kinder-5th graders. They have taken on the challenge of running a marathon (26.2 miles) by February 2008 and this event celebrates their commitment to begin this challenge. All students will run their first ceremonial laps and receive an official Marathon Kids Water Bottle as they cross the finish line. This is a free, non-competitive, family event. And it's loads of fun!
Believe it or not, our events draw up to 10,000 people at 9 a.m. and then 10,000 more at 11 a.m. As you can imagine an event like this relies heavily upon volunteer manpower...so we need your help. We have jobs ranging from Start Line "cattle-herding," to handing out Reward Water Bottles, to cheering on the little runners. You can't imagine how fun and inspiring this event is and we'd love for you to be a part of it!
If you do decide to volunteer, here's some other important info:
- Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
- The event is rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the weather.
- Check in at the volunteer table located at the front entrance 10 minutes prior to your scheduled shift. You will be given a job description at the volunteer table.
- DO NOT BRING VALUABLES!
We have 4 shifts available:
- 6-8 a.m. = Set-up
- 8-10 a.m. = Set-up & Event
- 10 a.m.-12 p.m. = Event
- 12-2 p.m. = Event & Break down
Please email Delnaaz Daruwala at ddaruwala@mail.utexas.edu by Wednesday, September 12th at 10pm if you're interested in volunteering. Make sure to include the following information in your email:
- your first and last name
- your email address
- the shift you'd like to work
Thank you! The Marathon Kids family looks forward to working with you!
